Bob serves as the Senior Minister, overseeing the staff, designing and coordinating worship and pastoral care, preaching, teaching, and facilitating communication between boards and other church groups. His great pleasures are welcoming, worshiping, preaching, caring for whoever crosses his path, and continually discovering the abundance of riches found in the Scriptures. He values Christian involvement in two-thirds world cultures, having been on short-term mission trips to the Yucatan and, most recently, a vision trip to Russia.

Raised in the U.C.C., like many others Bob regarded Confirmation as graduation from the church. Following an encounter with God as an infantryman in Vietnam, he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biblical Studies from Oral Roberts University (there’s a tale to tell!), studied at Princeton Theological Seminary, and received a Ph.D. in Old Testament from Drew University. After years of experience in evangelical (including Charismatic) and mainline Protestant realms, he returned to the U.C.C. in 1984. He has a deep appreciation for all facets of Christianity and appreciates the U.C.C. for its emphasis on being a uniting church, which encourages the blending of faith and reason.

Bob and his wife Betty (who is deeply committed to and involved in Christian Education), were married in 1970.  Raised in Michigan, they have lived in Oklahoma, New Jersey, and Florida. They have three perfect adult children and three faultlessly adorable grandchildren (and they’ll stretch the truth about other people near and dear to their hearts).

Bob has served as FCC's Senior Minister since 2002.
