purpose

To engage in Missions means to reach out to others in the name of Jesus Christ to share with them the reality of God’s love.  Missions is expressed in words and actions.  Jesus listed the sorts of things a genuine Christian will be involved in:  Offering food to the hungry, a drink to the thirsty, hospitality to the stranger, clothing to the naked, care for the sick, and a visit to those imprisoned.

Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’  Matthew 25:40  The Message

We couple this with Jesus' parting words:
Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”   Matthew 28:19-20 The Message

we engage

In addition to widespread volunteering by members of our congregation, ourcurrent missions involvement includes putting our hands, hearts, and minds in action at:

  • The Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen at the Salvation Army
  • Harbor Habitat for Humanity
  • Youth/Adult Work Missions Trips
  • Post-Hurricane Recovery Work on the Gulf Coast
  • CROP Walk (we are the rallying point for our community Walk)
  • The orphaned children of Urzhum, Russia.
Regular letter-writing and financial pledges for 30 to 40 children, whom we hope to visit,  offering encouragement and love in Christ’s name. In conjunction with Children’s HopeChest.

Please visit the Links Page for more information on these ministries.

Mission Opportunities for November & December

November 15 & 22
Donations for the Southwest Gleaners Food Bank will be accepted.
A list of needed items is located on the information rack in the main hallway.

During November
The Department of Human Services will again provide a wish list for Christmas gifts
for children living in Berrien County Foster Homes.
For some of these children, this will be the only gift that they will receive.
Call the office if you are interest in purchasing a gift for a child.

November 29 - December 20 ~ Mitten Tree
The Salvation Army is in need of hats, mittens and scarves for boys & girls.
On the 29th we'll have a Christmas tree set up (by the Chapel) for you to put your donations on.
Please sure that the items are new.

As you can see, we have many ways for you to spread God's love into our community during the holiday season. Your Missions Board appreciates your help!
