purpose
To engage in Missions
means to reach out to others in the name of Jesus Christ to share with
them the reality of God’s love. Missions is expressed in words and actions.
Jesus listed the sorts of things a genuine Christian will be involved
in: Offering food to the hungry, a drink to the thirsty, hospitality
to the stranger, clothing to the naked, care for the sick, and a visit
to those imprisoned.
Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’ Matthew 25:40 The Message
We couple this with Jesus' parting words:
Go
out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life,
marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded
you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up
to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 The Message
we engage
In addition to widespread volunteering by members of our congregation, ourcurrent missions involvement includes putting our hands, hearts, and minds in action at:

- Harbor Habitat for Humanity
- Youth/Adult Work Missions Trips
- Post-Hurricane Recovery Work on the Gulf Coast
- CROP Walk (we are the rallying point for our community Walk)
- The orphaned children of Urzhum, Russia.
Regular letter-writing and financial pledges for 30 to 40 children, offering encouragement and love in Christ’s name. In conjunction with Children’s HopeChest. Our visit to Urzhum in May 2010 was Amazing! See photos below!

HABITAT MISSIONS PROJECT
The Missions Board is again joining with several other churches, partner families and other volunteers to build five homes on Butternut Street in Benton Township. This year we are starting the 100th Harbor Habitat home. You DO NOT NEED to have prior construction experience. There is a job for everyone. We hope that you will come out and join us!
Our August build days that we have committed to are: Wednesday, August 10 and Saturday, August 13 from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. If these dates do not work into your schedule, building will be going on every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday during June. You will find sign up sheets located in the Gathering Room or call the church office at 983-5519.
